Welcome to New Zealand's biggest New Years Eve party.
The Rhythm and Vines festival runs over three days and features well over a hundred and twenty acts from around the world. Set amongst the sweeping green vines of Waiohika Estate in Gisborne, you will party with some of the worlds leading artists right on through to witness the worlds very first sunrise for 2009. Our adventure party playground is set amongst acres of grape vines and sloping green hills that features water slides, artists, carvers, swimming pools, golf courses, lighted vines, fire shows and six stages of music.

Stages & Entertaiment
Here you can find lots of important info about the festival past and present, know how to get in touch, get signed up to our newletters, get to know Gizzy (and NZ) and much much more, peruse at your leisure…

» Rhythm Stage
The R&V Main stage is where the serious action takes place. Flanked by the magic of the Golden Slopes, this Main stage will be the center piece for all the headlining live acts. Grab a spot on under the whispering willows and settle in for an action packed line up of international superstars and the best up and coming live kiwi acts. With capacity to hold the entire festival on its sloping hillside this stage also features the historic Matawhero Bridge, once transfered to Estate it has now become a prominent feature of the festival site.

» The Main stage
will also be site for the famous R&V Midnight Celebration come midnight on the 31st. The valley and vineyard come alight in an extravaganza of lasers, trapeze performers and LCD screens.  The past festivals have had kiwi heavyweights Salmonella Dub and Shapeshifter bringing in midnight, who will it be this year? Then settle in as world class drum and bass producers bring the Main stage home and welcome the first morning light of the new year.

» Vines Stage
The Vines Stage is the crown jewel in the Waiohika precinct. This enclosed natural ampitheatre features a terraced dance floor, permanant bar facilities built right into the hill side, and a pavillion-like stage set deep into the lush vines.  This is an intimate musical setting like no other. Here you will witness New Zealand and the worlds best dance acts come to entertain and ignite the 7000 deep crowd.  Enjoy live dub, funk and house acts in the Gisborne sunshine before experiencing the magical sunset over the vineyard.  Then buckle up as the world's best DJ's and producers take to the Vines stage bringing you the hottest in electro, house and minimal tech until the early hours of the morning.

» Futureshock Stage
Be ready to be inspired. Futureshock brings you the hottest new music, from acoustic folk to nu-rave, indie rock to disco-punk. Set high on the Waiohika ridge amongst persian rugs and chandeliers, this burlesque playground comes alive after dark. This fantastical, futuristic fun park is hosted by a world class lighting and visual technology and will be a chance to experience the future. Neon lights  and mirror balls will dazzle you, all while the distorted guitars, affected bass, drum machines and synthesizers clash into a magical melting pot like know other. Set under the southern stars the Futureshock stage also has distant views of the glimmering Pacific ocean and the famous Young Nick's headland beyond.

» Cellar Stage
Take the path through the vines from Main stage and you will find you a wooden wonderland like know other - the Cellar Stage.  Set amongst native trees and grasslands of Waiohika Estates very own forest, heavy bass undertones will vibrate amongst the undergrowth as beatboxers, turntablists and MC, do battle in the bush. Live percussion and sound clash bring in the evening before cutting edge hip hop, breaks and drum and bass DJ's keep you entertained until the new day comes.

» Jäger Zone
Announcing the Jäger Zone where Jägermeister will present a world first in stage and entertainment at Rhythm & Vines 2008.
Jägermeister has built a world first - A Jägermeister bus with Hydraulic stage, lighting, sound, DJ booth, and bar (serving ice cold Jäger of course), and much more...
Also, start thinking about your New Year's resolutions as MTV will be filming in the Jäger Zone. The best resolutions will win a "Summer Jägermeister Pack" jammed with all the premium Jägermeister gear.

About Gisborne
Gisborne, the first city in the world to see the sun each day, is located on the sunny East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. With around 45,000 inhabitants, Gisborne is the main centre of the Eastland region.
Gisborne has the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand and features brilliant white sand beaches ideal for surfing.
The Maori name for the district is Tairawhiti, which means "The coast upon which the sun shines across the water." Kaiti Beach, near the city, was the first meeting place of the European and Maori but the prime voyaging waka, Horouta is said to have come ashore somewhere within Poverty Bay, the region in which Gisborne is located.

Captain Cook first set foot here in 1769 and then European settlement was established in 1831 and the town that developed was named after Hon. William Gisborne, the Colonial Secretary, in 1870.
Over December and New Year, Gisborne explodes with tourists coming to bathe in our great climate and hospitality.
